An immense water basin (320 square kilometers) .
The Beauty of the Baskatong
For decades, generations of anglers have come to fish the waters of the Baskatong reservoir. This immense water basin (320 square kilometers) is one of the most extraordinary reservoirs in Quebec. It is also the most accessible. With over 2,800 km of beautiful sandy beaches and hundreds of islands, it’s no surprise then, that over the years, a network of outfitters offering a range of services have proliferated on the shores of the Baskatong. Since 1998, the Baskatong Reservoir has been recognized as a public wildlife area and is managed by a corporation. Funds are raised from the sale of permits and are then reinvested, with the goal of improving sport fishing.
For the past several years, the lake has been stocked with pickerel fry in order to maintain high-quality fishing. A new species has been introduced recently (fresh-water salmon) offering anglers new challenges.
In addition, the area surrounding the lake is ideal for hikers and nature enthusiasts who wish to explore or pick berries & mushrooms. Come fall, hunters will also find a great many game in the area.
