An Immense Playground for Nature Lovers

With its 13,615 square kilometres of surface area and its lakes and rivers, the La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve offers peace and tranquility in a natural environment that can rarely be found elsewhere.

The activities that you can enjoy in this vast natural habitat are: hunting, fishing, camping, swimming, canoeing, wilderness walks and interpretation of the local fauna and flora.

The reserve provides shelter for more that 150 species of birds and 40 species of mammals. There is also a wide variety of fish, particularly; pickerel, northern pike, lake trout and brook trout.

The reserve is also well known for moose, black bear and small game hunting. In the La Vérendrye reserve, the canoe-camping enthusiast will be delighted with the abundant and diverse waterways. Take advantage of the numerous routes that have been developed which are now among the most exciting in North America.

Camping is the most popular means of lodging in the Wildlife Reserve. There are over 50 wilderness camping sites and two maintained sites: the lac de la Vieille campground and the Savary Lake campsite.

Those who prefer can rent a cottage at the Domaine or at one of the numerous outfitter lodges in the area.

A visit to the Wildlife Reserve enables you discover a wildlife paradise. Explore the «Mysterious Forest», the observation point situated at lac Roland Falls, the «la Pointe» interpretive site, located at the Domaine and the Naturalist Interpretive Centre located at the south reception centre.
